While most spiders are harmless, and generally considered nuisances, we still don’t want them in the home. However, species such as the black widow and the brown recluse can bite when threatened and the bite can be very painful and even land you in the hospital. To get rid of these spiders and any other spider in the home, you can build your own spider killing spray and get rid of these insects from a safe distance.

Making the sprays

Borax is a natural mineral that is also an insecticide which can kill ants, termites and roaches. Make sure that you wear a mask and gloves when you handle borax. While borax is not exactly used to kill spiders, it can be used to kill the insects that spiders feed on, which will ensure that you remove a major food source for the spiders, which will make them lose interest in your home.

To target spiders directly, you can use a mixture of one cup of apple cider, one teaspoon of liquid soap, one teaspoon of oil, and one cup of pepper. Place these ingredients in a spray bottle and then spray the mixture on spiders directly or on areas where you think spiders may choose to set up, such as in the corners of a room for example.

Another spider killer and repellent that you can mix uses essential oils and water. Take a 16 ounce glass spray bottle and pour seven drops of essential oil into it. You then want to add warm water until the bottle is almost full and a few drops of dishwashing soap on top of that. Shake the mixture thoroughly and spray it in areas where you have seen spiders, and near possible spider entry points into the home, such as around windows or doors.

A mixture of one part ammonia and one part water can be useful as well. Spray this mixture once a week near entry points to keep spiders out. A similar mixture uses vinegar instead of ammonia. All you have to do is add one part vinegar and two parts water, and then spray the mix near entry points.
